In the field: goal-driven hive inspections

ColonyTrack is a goal-first beekeeping inspection app. Before you open a hive you pick what you came to do, the app shows only the fields that matter for that goal, you pull up the right colony by QR, NFC, or list, and you log everything by voice with your gloves on.

What is a goal-driven inspection?

A goal-driven inspection means choosing your purpose before you crack the lid: a mite check, swarm prevention, requeening, a harvest, or a routine check. The app then shows only the fields relevant to that goal instead of a generic blank form. A focused session means you are far less likely to forget the one thing you came to do, and for a new beekeeper it removes the paralysis of an empty checklist. ColonyTrack offers 12 goals, including a routine check, a mite check, swarm prevention, requeening, feeding, harvest, and winter prep.

How do you pull up the right hive in the field?

Three ways, and you can mix them across a yard:

QR and NFC are optional speed-ups, not requirements. The point is to get onto the correct hive's record in one motion instead of scrolling.

Can you log notes without taking your gloves off?

Yes. ColonyTrack uses voice-assisted dictation, so you speak your observations instead of typing. It was built and field-tested at the hive, with gloves on and bees flying, because that is the moment notes actually get lost. Talk while you work and the record is there when you close up.

What does the hive overview show?

Each hive's page gives you the state of the colony at a glance, drawn from the most recent inspection that recorded each field: queen status, latest mite count, any active treatment and when it ends, and super fullness. You walk up already knowing where the colony stood last time, instead of opening it blind.

FAQ

Do you need QR stickers or NFC tags to use ColonyTrack?

No. You can always select a hive from a list. QR stickers and NFC tags are optional shortcuts that pull up the right hive instantly by scanning or tapping, which is faster with gloves on.

How many inspection goals are there?

Twelve, from a routine check to swarm response.

Is ColonyTrack free?

Yes for your first two hives. The Pro plan is $5 a month when you keep more, and the field tools above stay free.
