Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of ColonyTrack ("the app", "the service"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms. Plain language, no tricks.

Your account

• You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
• You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
• One person per account. Don't share accounts.
• You can delete your account at any time. See our account deletion page for instructions.

Your data

• You own your data. Inspections, photos, notes, hive records. All yours.
• You grant us a license to store and process your data solely to provide the service to you.
• You can export your data at any time as CSV. No restrictions, no paywalls on your own records.
• If you delete your account, we delete your data. See our privacy policy for details.

Acceptable use

Don't use ColonyTrack to:

• Upload illegal, harmful, or abusive content
• Attempt to access other users' accounts or data
• Reverse engineer, scrape, or interfere with the service
• Use the app for anything unrelated to beekeeping or colony management

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

Subscriptions and payments

• Free tier: Up to 2 hives, no credit card required, no time limit.
• Paid plans: Billed monthly. On the web, payments are processed by Stripe. On the iOS and Android apps, payments are processed by Apple and Google respectively through their in-app purchase systems. Prices are listed on our pricing page.
• Renewal: Paid subscriptions renew automatically each month. You will be charged the current plan price on your renewal date.
• Cancellation: You can cancel anytime. Web subscribers cancel from their account settings; iOS subscribers cancel in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions; Android subscribers cancel in Google Play → Subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep access until then. No partial refunds for unused time.
• Price changes: If we change pricing, we'll notify you at least 30 days in advance. Existing subscribers keep their current price until the next renewal after the notice period.
• Downgrade: If you cancel a paid plan, your account reverts to the free tier. Data beyond the free tier limits is preserved and remains exportable via CSV; in-app viewing of hives over the free tier limit is locked until you resubscribe.

The app is a tool, not a veterinarian

ColonyTrack provides tools and educational content to help you manage your hives. It is not a substitute for professional advice. Beekeeping decisions, especially around disease treatment, pesticide use, and colony health, should be made with guidance from experienced beekeepers, local bee clubs, and veterinary professionals where applicable.

We do our best to provide accurate information, but beekeeping is regional and situational. What works in California may not work in Minnesota. Always verify guidance with local sources.

Service availability

• We aim for high availability but don't guarantee 100% uptime.
• The app works offline for core features (inspections, notes). Syncing requires an internet connection.
• We may update, modify, or discontinue features with reasonable notice.
• If we ever shut down the service entirely, we will give at least 90 days notice and provide data export tools.

Intellectual property

• ColonyTrack's code, design, branding, and educational content are our property.
• Photos and content you upload remain your property.
• Knowledge base articles and guides are for personal use. Don't republish them without permission.

Limitation of liability

ColonyTrack is provided "as is." We are not liable for colony losses, equipment damage, or any decisions made based on information in the app. Beekeeping involves inherent risks (stings, equipment costs, colony loss) that are part of the hobby regardless of what tools you use.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months preceding any claim.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Santa Barbara County, California.
